Note from the CEO on safety..

We are responsible for our own safety and for that of colleagues around us, as if they were our family. People, process and equipment - safety is first. We want everyone empowered to cease work if they see or feel an unsafe act. We must question that right to operate.’

HSSE&Q Policy statement

HSSE&Q is an integrated part of SMG’s processes, and is intended to protect our employees, clients, property, environment and the public.

With this in mind, SMG is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for all workers by the implementation of a HSE program within its’ organization. SMG is committed to ensuring that all applicable legislation is incorporated into the HSE program and to the consistent compliance with that legislation.

There are many costs to incidents and unsafe work practices. The greatest costs are human costs. By protecting our employee, we are also protecting their friends, families, fellow workers, management, the public and the environment from the far-reaching effects of serious incidents.   

In addition to protecting lives, our HSE program contributes to employee morale and pride because our employees are participating in identifying safety needs and developing safe work procedures.

SMG’s expectation is that every employee will perform his/her assigned responsibilities and duties with safety in mind. All employees are responsible for the implementation, and in ensuring ongoing maintenance of the HSE program.

Everyone employed by SMG is responsible for:

  • Wearing appropriate safety and personal protective equipment                                       
  • Ensuring all equipment is properly maintained and meets legislated safety standards

Employees, contractors and subcontractors who knowingly violate or willfully disregard the safety rules contained in the HSE program will be subject to disciplinary action, dismissal or legal action.  In addition, the company may face legal action and fines for violations of regulatory requirements. Those individuals who do not fulfill their HSE responsibilities will become accountable for any problems their negligence creates and may be liable under the law.
